Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has arrived in London, where he is scheduled to hold important meetings with British officials, according to official sources. The discussions are expected to include the matter of extradition of Shehzad Akbar and Adil Raja, both of whom are wanted in Pakistan.
Sources confirm that the Interior Minister will also attend the launch event of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during his visit. One day earlier, Naqvi had raised the extradition issue in a meeting with the British High Commissioner, during which relevant documents concerning Shehzad Akbar and Adil Raja were formally handed over.
Shehzad Akbar, a former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister who is currently residing in the UK, faces allegations of propagating against Pakistani state institutions. An Islamabad court had declared him a proclaimed offender after he repeatedly failed to appear before the court.
Akbar was declared an absconder this past Friday in a case related to allegedly controversial statements made on the social media platform X. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had registered a case against him in July for defamatory and objectionable remarks posted on his social media account.
According to an order issued by Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Abbas Shah, multiple summons were ignored, leading to the decision to declare him a proclaimed offender. The court also directed authorities to issue arrest warrants to ensure his appearance, noting that the accused had not cooperated with the investigation and remained absent throughout legal proceedings.
