Pakistan has approved the designation of UK-based Norse Atlantic Airways to operate direct flights to the country, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced. The decision allows the European airline to begin scheduled services, marking an expansion of Pakistan’s international aviation links.
According to Asif, Norse Atlantic Airways will launch direct flight operations from London, Manchester, and Birmingham to Islamabad. He said the approval reflects Pakistan’s broader efforts to enhance international air connectivity and improve direct access to the federal capital.
The defence minister said the increasing presence of international airlines in Pakistan is expected to create a more competitive aviation environment. He added that competition among carriers would help improve service quality and contribute to more balanced airfares for passengers.
Asif also confirmed the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to the United Kingdom after a six-year suspension. He said PIA will restart direct flights to London Heathrow Airport from March 29, 2026, restoring a key long-haul route.
He described the development as a significant achievement and attributed it to sustained efforts by civil aviation authorities and PIA management to restore the airline’s international standing. Asif said PIA will initially operate four weekly flights to London, with plans to increase frequency, aiming to strengthen air links for overseas Pakistanis.
