The Directorate of Passports and Immigration has released its annual performance report for 2025, outlining wide-ranging reforms aimed at improving service delivery and modernizing passport issuance across the country. The report details administrative, technological, and infrastructural measures introduced during the year to address long-standing public concerns.
Under the guidance of the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister, the Directorate installed modern passport printers, a step that permanently cleared the backlog of pending passports that had persisted for years. The report notes that this intervention significantly reduced waiting times and stabilized routine passport operations nationwide.
A major reform highlighted in the report is the launch of 24/7 passport processing and delivery services for the first time. Alongside round-the-clock operations, the Directorate carried out extensive renovation and modernization of its headquarters and regional passport offices to improve workflow, capacity, and public facilitation.
Overseas Pakistanis also saw service improvements through the introduction of one-window facilities at Pakistani embassies in several countries. This initiative streamlined passport applications for citizens abroad, reducing procedural delays and improving coordination between missions and the central system.
According to the report, a total of 5,572,013 passports were issued during 2025, including 3,275,263 under the normal category, 1,839,487 under the urgent category, and 276,789 through the fast-track service. The year also marked the introduction of new e-passport booklets with enhanced security features, expansion of passport offices and service counters, and a notable increase in public preference for technologically advanced e-passports.
