Ambassador of Pakistan to Morocco, Sayed Adil Gilani, met with Shaheryar Memon, focal person to the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP), and a member of his delegation at the Pakistan Embassy in Morocco during their participation in the Islamic African Arab Dialogue on Democracy, Peace and Security.
During the meeting, Shaheryar Memon briefed Ambassador Gilani on the objectives, activities, and vision of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, with a focus on promoting Pakistan’s trade and engagement in international markets. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations in various sectors.
Memon said that Pakistan and Morocco enjoy strong political relations alongside expanding economic cooperation. He noted that bilateral trade has reached approximately $800 million in recent years, with both countries aiming to push the volume beyond $1 billion through increased business collaboration.
He described Morocco as a strategic gateway for Pakistan to access African and European markets due to its extensive free trade agreements. Memon pointed out that Pakistan’s exports to Morocco rose from $24.85 million in 2018 to $32.06 million in 2022, while Morocco’s exports, including phosphates and fertilizers, resulted in a favorable trade balance of around $598 million for Morocco in 2021.
The discussion identified key trade sectors such as textiles, apparel, surgical goods, and pharmaceuticals from Pakistan, and phosphoric acid, DAP fertilizers, and rock phosphates from Morocco. Emerging areas including renewable energy, IT, agriculture, tourism, mining, and logistics were also highlighted, along with proposals for joint ventures, trade delegations, and leveraging opportunities linked to Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
