Syed Nazir Gilani said that the Kashmir issue is very simple and clear — October 27, 1947 is a black day in human history when Indian forces occupied the state of Jammu and Kashmir. According to him, India blatantly violated international law by using the so-called accession treaty of Maharaja Hari Singh as an excuse, and since then the Kashmir Valley has become a story of oppression, repression and bloodshed.
Other speakers at the event also stressed the ongoing human rights violations in the occupied valley, the right of the local population to self-determination, and the need to advocate for the issue at the global level. The participants stressed the need to raise their voices in favor of Kashmir at international forums and continue to stand in solidarity with the oppressed people of the occupied valley.
