Germany has shifted job and student visa categories entirely to the Consular Services Portal, affecting individuals seeking employment or education in the country. The German Consulate said the transition is aimed at improving efficiency, speed, and transparency in the visa application process while increasing overall visa availability.
According to the consulate, the new digital system is expected to reduce delays and accelerate the processing of visa applications. Under the previous mechanism, applicants often faced difficulties due to lengthy appointment waiting lists and limited access to submission slots.
With the introduction of the portal, applicants can now submit their visa applications directly online. Officials confirmed that all existing waiting lists have been closed and will be removed soon, marking a complete shift away from the earlier appointment-based backlog system.
Applicants who have already secured appointments under the old system have been instructed to proceed according to the previous process. The consulate stated that this measure is intended to ensure that no applicant loses progress and that pre-scheduled appointments continue without disruption.
All other individuals seeking German visas have been directed to initiate their applications through the Consular Services Portal. Online submissions will be accepted from December 12, 2025. Applications for student visas can be submitted via https://digital.diplo.de/studium, while applications for employment, training, job seeker, and other long-term visas can be filed through https://digital.diplo.de/visa-ewt.
