LONDON: Pakistan Press Club UK President Arshad Rachyal has paid tribute to the country’s martyrs, veterans and serving military personnel on Defence Day, saying September 6 symbolises the courage, unity and sacrifices that strengthened Pakistan’s defence.
In his Defence Day message, Rachyal said the historic achievements of national heroes, including legendary Pakistan Air Force pilot M.M. Alam, demonstrated the exceptional courage and professional capabilities of the country’s armed forces. He said the downing of Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman’s aircraft also reaffirmed Pakistan’s ability to defend its airspace.
He said Pakistan’s armed forces once again displayed professional competence, technological preparedness and strong defensive capabilities during the recent tensions between Pakistan and India. As a nuclear-armed state, Pakistan possesses the capacity and determination to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, he added.
Rachyal stressed that Pakistan desires peace and regional stability rather than conflict. However, he said the entire nation and its armed forces would stand united against any threat or aggression directed towards the homeland.
He described Pakistan as a sacred trust of its martyrs, a symbol of pride for its veterans and the future of coming generations. “We salute the brave sons of Pakistan who defend our freedom with courage, honour and sacrifice. Pakistan Zindabad, Pakistan Armed Forces Paindabad,” he said.
